Andaman Sea
The Andaman Sea is a world class cruising region. Discover Peninsula Malaysia's West Coast, with Penang,
the 99 islands of Langkawi, the wild Butang islands. Relax in the idyllic beauty of Thailand or Explore
the unchartered realms of Burma.
Raja Laut will have access to the numerous wonders of the Andaman Sea. Langkawi, Phuket and its
neighboring islands offer everything a tropical sailing holiday could offer. Exploring in this region of
the Andaman Sea is very exciting, sometimes you can find turquoise blue lagoons or waterfalls hidden away
from the sea; wonderful views and wildlife lurk around very corner. In Phang Nga Bay, between the east
coast of Phuket and the mainland, there are over one hundred islands. Some are steep karst outcrops and
others rise gently from the sea producing low sloping mountains, some offer the occasional pontoon and
idyllic restaurant and others are completely deserted. Calm tropical waters, abundant coral reefs, and
numerous beautiful islands make this a great area for cruises with schooner Raja Laut.
The Mergui Archipelago on the western coast of Myanmar (Burma) is one of the last remaining untouched
paradises on earth. This really is the ultimate in tropical paradise exploration. The islands, sparsely
populated, are characterized by dense mountainous rainforest and impenetrable jungle. White silica sand
beaches surround these islands and perfect natural bays provide shelter within which Raja Laut can anchor.
Diving and snorkeling here is superb, it seems that every island is absolutely untouched, the reefs are
perfect with incredible topography, especially on the west side of the islands. Nature is prolific on
these islands, on the beaches Macaques (monkeys) and monitor lizards can be seen feeding on crabs at low
tide. Amazingly colored birds fly from the rainforest canopy. The dense rainforest makes large mammals
hard to spot although tracks have been found of the rare Asian rhinoceros and crocodiles have been seen
here too. No scientific studies have been carried out in the southwest Myanmar islands since before the
20th century so who knows what awaits in the tropical waters and jungles of the Mergui Archipelago.
Passengers can also venture south to the popular Malaysian island of Penang. Here passengers can enjoy
both tranquil tropical sailing and the busy and exciting cultural life of this island.
Conrad's Passage
Every year Raja Laut travels from North Borneo to the Andaman Sea. Following a path taken over 100 years
ago by the famous writer Joseph Conrad, Raja Laut will travel through many adventurous lands.
Conrad’s passage is a twice annual voyage between North Borneo and the islands of the Andaman Sea, via
Brunei, Sarawak, Singapore, Penang, Langkawi and up to Phuket. It is a journey worthy of Conrad's
experiences. A journey that reminds us of why Southeast Asia holds a mystique matched by few other areas
on earth; with incredible natural locations, crystal clear seas and idyllic tropical islands, there is a
limitless array of adventures and experiences to be had both on sea and land. It is a crossroads between
Eastern and Western civilizations; with its ancient spices routes; the amazing cultural diversity; and at
the heart the jungles of Borneo, with its history of headhunters, traders and explorers.
Cruising aboard schooner Raja Laut is the holiday experience of a lifetime. The craftsmanship and rich
timber interior provide classic charm and she is ideally suited to tropical cruises: her spacious cabins
are equipped with ensuite bathrooms, hot showers, air-con, and all the comforts of a luxury schooner and
our highly experienced crew will ensure that your trip will be an experience that you will never forget.
North Borneo (also called Sabah, Malaysian
Borneo)
A journey to North Borneo is a glimpse into a land rich with diversity: a coastline dotted with tropical
islands, crystal clear waters, spectacular diving, and a mainland of extraordinary diversity – 32 different
indigenous tribes, the highest mountain in Southeat Asia, virgin rainforests, rivers, canyons, exotic
wildlife, and a myriad of adventure and eco-tourism activities.
The Malaysian state of Sabah is located on the northern tip of the near-mythical island of Borneo, and was
previously known as North Borneo. Schooner Raja Laut will be moored near Kota Kinabalu, the captial of
Sabah and an excellent base for cruises ranging from day excursions to the neighboring Marine Park to
longer voyages, depending upon your requirements.
The warm and often crystal clear waters surrounding Sabah are home to kilometers of pristine white-sand
beach, some of the best dive locations in the world and many islands that have yet to be fully explored.
As the tropical seas hold unparalleled biodiversity underwater so too do the rainforests and jungle on
land.
Activities can include coral reef and wreck diving, evenings moored off incredibly beautiful islands, and
trips into the mainland where you can experience a variety of natural, historical and cultural adventures.
