S/y Silolona ... the best of both worlds
Classic in line and style, and built by Konjo master boat builders
using traditional methods, the Silolona is based on the Phinisi style of wooden hulled
vessels from South Sulewesi that have been plying the trade routes of Southeast Asia for more than four
centuries. Bugis sailors, also hailing from Sulewesi, perfected the mechanics of sailing with the monsoon
winds giving rise to the term Bugis schooners for these elegant craft.
The Sulewesi tradition, however, has been overlaid with modem analytical methods and tuned to reflect the
stringent demands dictated by Lloyd's Register for wooden vessel construction, ensuring the highest levels
of safety, stability and performance. Conceptualized from the beginning to be a luxury passenger vessel,
the Silolona was designed by a professional marine architect from the USA.
Behind the familiar face, the Silolona is equipped with three super spacious staterooms with
king sized beds, two staterooms with double beds and one lecturer's cabin. Each stateroom is adorned with
art from around the Indonesian Archipelago and features abundant storage and an extra seating area that
could convert to a single bed. All staterooms have air-conditioning and extremely comfortable en suite
facilities.
The modem galley is designed to enable the Silolona's chefs to turn out mouthwatering local,
Asian and international cuisine. The bridge is equipped with the latest communications, internet and
navigation technology. The designated dive area features state-of-the-art facilities and ample space for
up to twelve divers.
With a large sun deck, and outside lounge area for catching sun or dining al fresco, a spacious saloon
lounge with library, bar and multimedia technology, a fully equipped dive shop and operations area, guests
on the Silolona will savour an authentic taste of sailing amongst the islands of Southeast
Asia on a Bugis Phinisi, manned by a professional crew of twelve, with a generous measure of luxury and the
uncompromising standards of safety of a world class charter vessel.
... the experience of a lifetime
Exploring the islands of Indonesia aboard the Silolona is unlike any sailing adventure on
earth. Itineraries are custom designed to meet the interests and abilities of its passengers, combining
hiking, cycling, diving, snorkeling and just plain relaxing.
Overnight voyages to new islands might be followed by visits in remote villages to witness and take part
in ceremonies, rituals and feasts that date back to the Stone Age. Diving in crystal clear waters to
investigate a coral reef might be followed by the chance to see the world famous dragons of Komodo, or the
exotic bird of paradise, or just to enjoy some fishing in a sleepy native harbour, or to picnic on the rim
of a gently dozing volcano.
The variety of landscape is unimaginable... the colors intense... the cultures fascinating... the flora
and fauna a veritable kaleidoscope of diversity.
... experience the path less traveled
Tropical islands rich in culture and traditions... smoldering volcanoes and turquoise bays... Stone Age
rituals alive in the 21st century... coral reefs teeming with life... war dance, deserted beaches and
dragons. The islands of the Indonesian archipelago offer true treasure to adventurers who want to look
beyond the customary face of travel. Often remote and inaccessible, this is an opportunity to open a
window into a diversity of people, cultures, traditions, landscapes, flora and fauna unlike anywhere else
on earth.
Off the beaten track, however, does not have to mean out of reach. The key is to have the right form of
transport, the right knowledge, the right experience, and the right contacts. Our experience, knowledge
and contacts follow almost two decades of traveling and working throughout the archipelago, building close
relationships with village communities and organizing cultural visits and exchanges. Our transport is even
more exciting with the newly launched 49 meter Silolona, a traditionally styled Indonesian
wooden hulled Phinisi, built and equipped to ensure the highest contemporary standards of comfort, safety
and performance.
